Session Description: : Parents and guardians of adolescent and young adult children who abuse substances experience an inordinate amount of stress. Often times they do not know what to do to help their substance abusing adolescent or young adult child and will typically seek advice from well-meaning family members and even mental health providers that may not be helpful or is ineffective. This presentation will provide parents and guardians practical, actionable steps for building resilience as they assist their substance abusing teen or young adult.

Session: If Addiction is a Disease, What Can We Do About It?

Speaker: Owen Lombardi, MA, Behavioral Therapist 1, Inova Fairfax Hospital, CATS. Learn more about Owen.

Session Description: Could addiction be a disease? How do we know? Is there a way to cure or manage the disease? What are the best resources and treatments? By the end of this session, you’ll be able to define why addiction is more than moral failing, identify the role of dopamine in addiction and learn how addiction tricks the brain into choosing the drug of choice over other survival needs.

It’s Springtime at the Park: Come visit the Morven Park Bunny Trail!

Celebrate the beginning of spring in the historic Morven Park gardens with games, crafts, and our popular egg roll down the Davis Mansion lawn. This year we’re offering something better than a traditional egg hunt! We’re setting up Hippity Hop Stops featuring crafts and activities for all ages. Get your Hop Stop Passport stamped as you make your way through our gardens, posing for Instagrammable moments along the way, and collect candy and goodies. Be sure to meet rabbits from the 4H Leaps and Squeaks Rabbit Club and take your own family photo with the Easter Bunny.

BriteWash car wash to host community grand opening fundraiser for Mobile Hope.

BriteWash auto wash is now open and welcomes customers to its ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration. There will be free car washes and complimentary food and drinks. Additionally, the event will have a DJ, face painting, balloon art, prizes and giveaways.

The VIP ribbon cutting will be at 10 AM.

The 66th Annual Leesburg Halloween Parade @ downtown Leesburg

The 66th annual Leesburg Halloween Parade, hosted and organized by the Leesburg Kiwanis Club, will be held on Monday, October 31, through downtown Leesburg.

The parade will begin at 6 p.m., starting in the front field at Ida Lee Park and proceeding down King Street to Fairfax Street.

King Street will be closed to traffic from Battlefield Parkway to Catoctin Circle, beginning at 5:30 p.m. No cross traffic will be allowed across King Street during the parade. The street will be reopened once clean-up operations by the Town’s Public Works Department are completed. Motorists should plan on alternate travel routes during this time and follow the designated detours.

Those attending the event are encouraged to bring food donations for Loudoun Hunger Relief, who will collect items towards the end of the parade. Please visit www.loudounhunger.org for a list of most needed items.
