Independence Day Celebrations in Loudoun

The 4th of July may look different this year with the cancellation of many beloved parades and firework shows. There are still plenty of public events to celebrate America’s independence in Loudoun with Covid-19 precautions in place.

Here is a round up of festive events for the 4th of July weekend.

Later in the day, you can enjoy live music by the Larry Thomas Duo from 4pm-8pm.

Come enjoy the grounds of Dodona Manor at 10am for a live presentation of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s January 1941 Four Freedoms speech. In the speech, Roosevelt proposed four freedoms that people everywhere in the world are fundamentally entitled to enjoy: freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. This speech was the inspiration behind the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.

After the presentation, posters of Norman Rockwell’s “Four Freedoms” will be on display until 1pm. There will be an opportunity for visitors to discuss the art. Guests are also welcome to pack a picnic and enjoy the grounds.

Purcellville Celebrates America

Purcellville is still holding a parade on July 4th, but will be vehicles only. The parade starts at noon from Loudoun Valley High School on North Maple Avenue, the procession turns right onto Main Street, left onto Nursery Avenue and concludes at Emerick Elementary.

Middleburg: Parade of Vehicles

Middleburg will also hold a vehicle procession, traveling from Salamander Lane through downtown.  The police chief and the Middleburg American Legion Post 250’s Color Guard will lead the parade. Vehicles include antique fire trucks from the Old Dominion Historical Fire Society, appearances by Uncle Sam and Betsy Ross, as well as Middleburg’s 2020 high school graduates from The Hill School.

Also at the parade, the town of Middleburg will announce the winners of its Fourth of July front door and porch decorating contest. American flags are displayed throughout the town and along Washington Street, thanks to scouts from Boy Scout Troop 2950 who distributed them to residents last week.

In lieu of fireworks, churches within the town and the Middleburg Museum will ring their bells for two minutes beginning at 9pm.
