Aldie triplets, Ariya, Dhilan and Jasmin Shah, paid it forward on their ninth birthday in a big way.
With much excitement, the children delivered a check for $2,000 to LINK Against Hunger on June 11. LINK provides emergency food to people in need in the Herndon, Sterling, and Ashburn communities.
The children raised the $2,000 by hand making candles and selling them.
“This all started because we made candles for fun one weekend and the kids had so much fun and loved how they turned out that they wanted to keep making more,” says their mother, Rupal Shah.
Rupal says they learned how to make the candles together as a family. The kids helped design the labels and pick out the fragrances.
“They did everything except when it came to handling the hot wax, but the scooping, measuring, checking the temperature, adding the fragrance, and creating the colors along with stirring was all them,” she says. “They helped label and package the candles as well!”
Since April, the kids have collected $2,575 in donations with $575 donated to Feeding America. Rupal says SocialCode, the company where she works, will also match the $2,000 donation to LINK Against Hunger
The children say they’ve learned so much from this project. The initiative made them realize anyone can make a difference in their community.
