This Memorial Day is an unusual one with COVID-19. The current situation didn’t stop one local Loudoun County business from personally honoring the fallen, however.
With many Memorial Day services cancelled, the owner of One Family Brewing, David Keuhner, decided to use his 27-acres of land off the Berlin Turnpike to serve as the home for fallen heroes to be remembered and their families to pay respect. Families of the fallen sponsored the flags that now dot the grounds of the future site of the Lovettsville brewery.
The brewery teamed up with Flags of Valor, a local company in Ashburn, made up of all veterans who build 100% American wooden flags. Flags of Valor built the cedar cross that stands in the middle of the field.
Sponsorship is open to anyone who wishes to dedicate an 8”x12” flag.
To see the list of the dedications and to order, visit One Family Brewing’s website.
One Family Brewing is located at 12851 Lutheran Church Road in Lovettsville, Virginia.
Gold Star Families Memorial Monument
One Family Brewing is also the site of the future Gold Star Families Memorial Monument (GSFMM).
Gold Star refers to families who lost loved ones to military service. Medal of Honor Recipient Hershel “Woody” Williams created the Gold Star Families Memorial to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. One of its missions is to have memorials across the country.
The Lovettsville Gold Star Families Memorial will be the first in the Northern Virginia area. You can make a contribution here.
One Family Brewery is raising funds for the memorial through a “Gold Star” craft beer series. The brewery teamed up with Three Notch’d Brewery in Charlottesville to create this product line. The 2nd edition recently launched.
This Amber Ale with Liberty Hops is in honor of a Lovettsville local who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Specialist Stephan Mace died at Combat Outpost Keating, a small American base in Eastern Afghanistan on October 3, 2009. Seven others also lost their lives in that attack. The beer is available at the brewery and at local Virginia stores.
Another way to contribute and support local business in Loudoun is to purchase through LoudounGo. This is an online platform that features local farmers and vendors and connects them with families across the Virginia and Washington, DC area.
Now thru May 31st, $5 of every order will be donated to the local Gold Star Families Memorial Monument.
