Project Horse, a program that connects people in need of renewed hope and confidence with rehabilitated rescue horses, will now join an impactful array of programs run by the Arc of Loudoun. The nonprofit serves people and their families with disabilities at its Leesburg campus.
Through equine-assisted mental health and wellness services for individuals and families, Project Horse will be a great addition to programming at the Arc of Loudoun. The calming presence of horses, with their keen ability to sense and respond to the human condition, provides an ideal environment for healing and self-discovery.
Currently, the Arc of Loudoun programs include Ability Fitness Center, A Life Like Yours (ALLY) Advocacy Center, Aurora Behavior Clinic, Aurora School, and Open Door Learning Center Preschool.
Lisa Kimball, chief executive officer of The Arc of Loudoun said in a statement, “Project Horse provides hope and healing to the community through a range of non-riding equine psychotherapy and wellness programs. In connection with its rehabilitated therapy horses, Project Horse helps individuals manage stress and anxiety, heal from trauma, build resilience, and regain hope. We are so proud to add Project Horse to The Arc’s ‘stable’ of offerings.”
Joanne Trimmer will lead Project Horse at the Arc of Loudoun. She will take the reins from Project Horse Founder, Darcy Woessner. Previously Trimmer served as the director of programs and development and community relations at The Ryan Bartel Foundation. She was a key force in the foundation’s growth and strategic development. “The Arc is absolutely delighted that Joanne is joining our senior staff. She brings deep compassion and a wealth of experience that will ensure the Program’s continued success,” said Kimball.
The Project Horse Empowerment Center campus, located in Purcellville, VA, will continue to offer all of its services to clients from its Trillium Farm location.
