The Loudoun County Hypothermia Shelter is now open to those experiencing homelessness. The shelter, located at 19520 Meadowview Court in Leesburg, will be open on a nightly basis between 6:30 p.m. and 7 a.m. until the end of March 2022.

The shelter offers meals, shower facilities, and a warm place to sleep for single adults. In addition to providing a warm place to sleep, guests will have help with securing food, medical assistance, and employment.

There’s a limit on personal belongings and bags that can be brought to the facility. Storage will be available on a limited basis for some belongings, however.

The shelter will also enforce a number of safety guidelines to mitigate the spread of COVID-19:

  • Temperature checks with a no-contact thermometer
  • A face covering will be provided for anyone who does not have one
  • A shelter staff member will verbally provide a COVID-19 symptom screening questionnaire
  • Hand sanitizer will be available for cleaning hands frequently
  • Social distancing

Loudoun County will also provide free transportation to the shelter through the county’s bus system. People who need to reach the shelter can use the route 82 bus stop across the street from the William Watters House located at 22365 Enterprise Street in Sterling. The bus arrives at 5:30 p.m. and departs at 5:45 p.m.

Another free bus to the shelter will also be available every day at the bus route 57 bus stop near the right rear side of the Shenandoah building located at 102 Heritage Way, NE in Leesburg. The bus arrives at 6:30 p.m. and departs at 6:45 p.m.

The Hypothermia Shelter is a joint effort between the county and the Loudoun Continuity of Care, a coalition of local organizations that work to provide support for people experiencing homelessness.
