Volunteers Needed to Bake Birthday Cakes for Children in Loudoun Community

Cake4kids is in need of more volunteers to bake cakes for underserved children.

Birthday cakes are something that many of us take for granted. Unfortunately, there are children who’ve never experienced the joy of a birthday cake on their special day. One local organization is voluntarily making birthday cakes for children who otherwise wouldn’t have one. More volunteers are needed to meet demand, however.

Cake4kids is a nation-wide organization that’s filled with volunteer bakers who bake birthday cakes and other treats for underserved children in the community. The kids who receive the cakes are victims of violence or trafficking, are in foster care, homeless or low income. The organization works with a number of agencies within northern Virginia and are asking for additional volunteer bakers to make sure all children receive a special cake for their special day.

According to volunteer, Farah Syed, the children in the agencies get to pick what treat they want for their birthday (a cake, cupcakes, cookies, bars, etc.). Then they choose a theme for their cake and flavor. “Our volunteer bakers make sure we fulfill every possible request no matter what flavor or design the children want.”

The volunteers deliver the cake to the agencies, but they don’t meet the children for privacy reasons. Syed says while baking, she thinks about the smile the children will have when they receive their personalized treat. “We sometimes get feedback from the families and the agencies on how the child loved their cake,” she adds.

Cake4Kids was once two chapters but have merged Loudoun County and the northern Virginia group together in 2021. The chapter is in need of more coverage and volunteers to make the magic happen, particularly in Loudoun County. “We want to make sure that all children who are in our communities get a special birthday cake for their special day!”
