The thought of a child waking up to nothing on Christmas morning is unbearable to even imagine. Fortunately, the community stepped up to help Mobile Hope deliver presents to thousands of children in need this Christmas.
Ahead of the holidays, volunteers and staff with Mobile Hope organized a Christmas drive-through event. Families received a bag of gifts for Christmas morning as well an experience to remember. The event included appearances by Santa Claus, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and the Grinch, to name a few. Superlative Events provided the lighting and falling snow, which turned this year’s event into a true winter wonderland.
“I actually was moved to tears at so many times during the day,” said Allyson Ruscitella, the communications spokesperson with Mobile Hope. “For many of the kids, this was the first time ever seeing Santa. To be a part of a magical experience for those kids is unbelievable.”
Many of the volunteers making the spirit of Christmas come alive were kids that Mobile Hope works with in crisis. This included homeless and at-risk youth served by the organization. Ruscitella said, “knowing their back story and just watching them put it all aside and get into the Christmas spirit and serve the kids that we are serving was amazing.”
In addition to the event, many of the donated wrapped toys went out on the nonprofit’s “Listen for the Honk” bus that travels to Loudoun communities in need.
Since the pandemic started, volunteers with Mobile Hope have provided extra meals throughout the community.
