The historic Paxton Manor in Leesburg has once again transformed into the scariest haunted house and is now ready for visitors. Enter if you dare, that is.

Shocktober has been named the fifth scariest Haunted House in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure as well as awarded Event of the Year by Visit Loudoun. On Oct. 1 the haunted house opens for its eleventh season with a new theme, packages, and attractions.

The site of this haunt, Carlheim Manor, is a 150-year old, 43-room mansion that is transformed into a haunted attraction each year to raise funds for The Arc of Loudoun, a nonprofit dedicated to providing a lifetime of opportunities for people with disabilities. Shocktober is a major production that entertained more than 17,600 Shock Fans and benefited from more than 10,000 volunteer hours in 2019. Since 2010, Shocktober has generated $3.5 million for The Arc of Loudoun.

This year, guests will experience new rooms and characters. “The story of Carvers weaves in the true history of the manor and its property, with a story about its haunted past and modern-day terror,” says Matt Smith, Director of Facilities for The Arc and creative genius behind Shocktober.  The Carvers are fictional group of cannibals and are hiding in the mansion.
